Venables Theatre presents – Water Words – Family Showtime Series

October 24 @ 4:00 pm 6:00 pm

About the Performance

Water Words is a poetic theatre performance for young audiences that blends storytelling, puppetry, object theatre, and live music to explore our relationship with water.

Two friends, Mamby and Hélène, live worlds apart: one in Senegal and the other in Canada. They both have burning feet, one from hot sand, the other from winter boots. Water separates them. One lives where there is an abundance of water, snow, and ice, while the other must search for water and carry it home in buckets.

“MAMBY: I think that water carries everything we say. Water understands all languages.”

The main character is water, a precious liquid that is scarce in many places. Before our eyes, Hélène and Mamby give life and language to water in its many forms: spring water, well water, salt water, rainwater, and more. They give voice to the challenges, fears, frustrations, and worries that come with both the lack and abundance of water, taking us from the Sahel region in West Africa to North America.
