Volunteers Who Care to Share

Discover a travel experience with a purpose at Okanagan Gleaners. Located just 2 km south of Oliver on Highway 97, this unique, 100% donor- and volunteer-driven Christian organization has been dedicated to “Feeding the Hungry in Christ’s Name” since 1994.

By salvaging surplus produce that would otherwise go to waste in local Okanagan fields and orchards, our team and visiting volunteers process fresh ingredients into nutritious, dried vegetable soup mixes. Since operations began in a renovated 1920s tobacco-drying barn in 1996, the facility has produced and distributed over 100 million servings of food to poor and needy communities worldwide. Whether you are a solo traveler, a family, or part of a larger group, visiting the Gleaners offers a meaningful opportunity to give back while enjoying the beauty of the South Okanagan.

Volunteer Opportunities: “Be a Gleaner”
If you can clean and chop vegetables, you can make a world of difference! Okanagan Gleaners welcomes individuals, families, youth groups, churches, and seniors to drop in and join our community.

Daily Volunteering:
Help prepare fresh vegetables for production any morning.
Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

Seasonal Packing:
Twice a year—in the spring and fall—the facility switches gears to package the dried product into final soup mixes.

Diverse Roles:
Beyond food prep, we always have a need for specialized skills or general help in areas such as equipment repair, administration, facility maintenance, janitorial services, and coffee service.

Our operations run year-round with only a short break during the Christmas season. It’s the perfect morning activity before heading out to explore Oliver’s famous wineries and sights in the afternoon.
