CANCELLED Venables Alive! Local Artist Series!
Zelene Rojo is a new Ukrainian-Argentinian musical duo, Kateryna Melnyk and Bruno Bosio. With original compositions and some revisions of existing works, their repertoire consists of a mixture of different styles, indie, pop, soul, and, at the same time, ethnic and traditional motifs from the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
The main instruments played by the musicians are bass guitar, ukulele, Arabic oud, and Turkish frame drum, bendir. With lyrics in English, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, and Ukrainian, the concert is a true cocktail of musical combinations that will take us from East to West in a 70-minute show.
The show will contain original songs followed by different modern and traditional rhythms from South America, such as chacarera, and cumbia, authored by the artists performed with ukulele, voice, unusual melodic bass lines that are pushed from back to the front of the sound, and ethnic-experimental repertoire with smooth Balkan and Funk touches that intertwine the cultural fusion of rhythms and genres. Half of the show will be played on the Arabic oud, a legendary and ancient stringed instrument with magnetic and deep sound. Together with the audience, we will explore its sound within traditional Arabic music, and continue with the performance of Ukrainian traditional songs, after which we will discover its potential in creating a modern sound that could erase barriers between styles and genres.
Zelene Rojo characterizes this: “A musical journey exploring the different passageways of the soul, invoking the mystique and sound depth that emanates and emerges between the woods and strings of instruments, the voice, an ancient drum beat, and the modern sound that it has been transformed to”.
