SUMMARY:Ladom Ensemble (Venables Theatre)
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the South Okanagan Concert Society\nLadom Ensemble combines piano\, cello\, accordion\, and percussion in a unique blend of acoustic chamber and world music that is passionate\, sophisticated\, and wild. The group met and formed in 2007 while studying music at the University of Toronto. Individual members hail from Alberta (Michael Bridge – accordion)\, Toronto (Beth Silver – cello)\, Prince Edward Island (Adam Campbell – percussion)\, and Ontario by way of Tehran\, Iran (Pouya Hamidi – piano). \nPouya\, the in-house composer\, writes original music for the group inspired by Persian and classical fusion but the Canadian spread of the group also reaches across the world and genres as their all-original repertoire incorporates inspirations from Argentinean tango\, Serbian folk and dance traditions\, Persian classical repertoire\, as well as music from the Classical (Bach\, Prokofiev) and progressive rock worlds (Radiohead). Ladom doesn’t pretend to represent any one tradition\, but rather expresses an authentically Canadian experience. \nPart of the South Okanagan Concert Society 2022/2023 Series: \n\nBuzz Brass – December 4\, 2022 at 2:00\nNicolas Ellis and the Agora Quartet – March 17\, 2023 at 7:30\nPercussiano3 – March 31\, 2023 at 7:30\nLadom Ensemble – April 14\, 2023 at 7:30

SUMMARY:Locals In Concert: Massey\, Mike Szalay (Firehall Brewery)
DESCRIPTION:Another great Locals in Concert event: Massey\, a talented band from Penticton\, with an opening set by Mike Szalay.\nMASSEY is a dark\, dreamy folk-pop band from Penticton\, BC led by Madison Whale and featuring Lisa Hughes\, Sean Petersen\, and Jared Jackel. Whale\, in her curiously confessional songwriting style\, explores the expanses encompassing heartache\, longing\, love and loss. Shining high above rolling country rhythms\, Whale’s voice is clear\, conscious and timelessly melodic- and you can count on some good wisecracks too. \nMike Szalay is a local singer-songwriter and front man of the folk-rock band Great White North. Influences range from the legendary songwriting of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen to the more modern Jack White and Jason Isbell. With a mix of originals and classic covers both as a solo singer and in the band\, audiences are connected with familiar feelings of heartbreak and sorrow with very small amounts of hope and promise sprinkled in. \nEntry by donation. PLEASE NOTE that seating is first-come-first-serve. RSVPing on their website is highly recommended but does not guarantee a seat; it serves mainly as a way for the brewery to know you’re coming so they can staff properly and provide the best service possible. Arrive early enough\, between 6 and 6:30pm is recommended\, to get the best choice of seat before the fun begins at 7pm! And don’t forget donation cash for the band! (Credit/debit donations accepted at the bar or with your server).

SUMMARY:Naomi Shore (Firehall Brewery)
DESCRIPTION:One of Firehall’s favourite Canadian musicians: Naomi Shore! Naomi has just released her sophomore album ‘Stability’ which\, she has half jokingly categorized as Self-Help Songs. Over the last three years\, Shore has overcome her pandemic fuelled identity crisis and broken through her creative insecurities to record and release a brand new record. Naomi has said that these songs were written during some very challenging times over the last few years.\n“Most of the lyrics on this album started as little affirmations\, I was repeating to myself just to get through. I can’t speak for all artists but I know a lot of us really struggled with our sense of purpose and belonging when Covid shut everything down. Songwriting is the way I process my lived experience. It is how I find connection and validation. All I can hope for is that these songs will help someone\, anyone\, feel seen and understood.” \nEntry by Donation. \nPLEASE NOTE that seating is first-come-first-serve. RSVPing on our website is highly recommended but does not guarantee a seat; it serves mainly as a way for Firehall Brewery to know you’re coming so they can staff properly and provide the best service possible.
