SUMMARY:7 Stories (Venables Theatre)
DESCRIPTION:7 Stories is a black comedy by Morris Panych\, which premiered at the Arts Club Theatre\, Vancouver\, BC in May\, 1989.\nThe play is set on the seventh storey ledge of an apartment building\, in front of several windows. The protagonist\, simply named “Man\,” stands on the ledge\, contemplating a jump\, but he is constantly delayed by interruptions from the individuals in the apartments\, who are all are attempting to escape their own limitations\, to explore other ways of being and perceiving.\n\nAn old woman\, Lillian\, functions as a kind of seer in the play. Her advice to the Man that he must fly – must rise above his limited and negative point of view – is an indicator that the imagination can create for itself a freer environment\, a larger space. For Lillian\, her enclosed space\, a small room which she has not left for fifty years\, can be very large. \nFreedom is a state of mind. \nSee full details on SOAP Theatre’s website at soplayers.ca/stories \nFive Performances Only: \n\nFriday-Saturday April 28-29 at 7:30 pm\nSunday matinee April 30 at 2:00 pm\nFriday-Saturday May 5-6 at 7:30 pm\n\n

SUMMARY:Earth Day Concert (Firehall Brewery)
DESCRIPTION:This Earth Day (April 22nd)\, we are excited to host Maureen McConaghy on the Firehall stage! Maureen has been rocking the Firehall Open Mic Night for years now\, so it’s about time to give her a whole night to let loose! Entry by donation (recommended $10-20 per person).\nAll day on Earth Day Firehall will be offering growler refills for half-price\, to celebrate sustainable consumption! In the three R’s of sustainability — Reduce\, Reuse\, Recycle — reuse trumps recycle any day. Recycling your glass bottles and aluminum cans is great of course\, but re-using refillable glass “growler” beer jugs for take-out beer goes a lot farther in community efforts to look after our environment. Bring your growlers or howlers in anytime on Earth Day for a smoking deal!\nRSVP: https://www.firehallbrewery.com/…/earth-day-concert…\nEntry by donation. PLEASE NOTE that seating is first-come-first-serve. RSVPing on their website is highly recommended but does not guarantee a seat; it serves mainly as a way for Firehall to know you’re coming so they can staff properly and provide the best service possible. So make sure you arrive early enough\, between 6 and 6:30pm is recommended\, to get the best choice of seat before the fun begins at 7pm! And don’t forget donation cash for the band! (Credit/debit donations accepted at the bar or with your server).
