Johnston’s 2010 album “Thank You for Being a Friend” appeared on the !Earshot National Top 50 Chart. Exclaim! magazine described it as “simplistic synth-pop and aggressive acoustic folk.” A feature article about Johnston in the Globe And Mail acknowledged his polarizing status in the Canadian music scene\, noting that for some he is a “modern-age Stompin’ Tom Connors.” However\, unlike Connors\, Johnston’s references to life in modern-day Canada are exaggeratedly irreverent and unromanticized\, featuring ironic swipes at large Canadian institutions like Foodland\, No Frills\, and Tim Hortons. As of 2022\, Johnston continues to tour across Canada\, performing his energetic and humorous show.\nCover charge of $15. When performing as a band\, the traditional combination of banjo and fiddle met with classically trained\, powerhouse vocals evoke a fusion of modern and vintage sounds. Upright bass imbues the performance with melodic rhythm\, moving their audience between states of mesmerized captivation and joyful dancing. Audiences can expect an intimate experience from Ghostly Hounds\, with a focus on deeply personal songwriting and vulnerable storytelling\, powerfully delivered by Francesca’s signature commanding vocals.\nGhostly Hounds is the folk project of Francesca Mirai\, singer-songwriter and banjo player based out of S\,DÁYES/ Pender Island\, BC. With a background in classical\, jazz and punk\, Francesca has become known for their unique vocals. They captivate their audience with a clear\, soaring range\, powerful projection and just the right amount of grit\, coalescing elegantly with traditional and modern banjo instrumentals. She also teaches adults and is the Outreach Coordinator of the Kamloops Art Council and participates in community art projects. Adriana considers art to be a healing force that allows us to speak our hearts and bare our souls one stroke at a time.
