SUMMARY:The Patsy Cline Project & Hank Lives (Venables Theatre)
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Oliver Music & Entertainment.\nIn 2016\, Lisa Brokop put together a new musical venture\, “Lisa Brokop: The Patsy Cline Project.” Lisa pays homage to one of country music’s greatest ladies with some of Cline’s classic hits like “Sweet Dreams\,” “Walkin After Midnight\,” and “Crazy\,” as well as some of her own material specifically written for the project. As an added bonus\, you get Paul Jefferson\, a major country artist and super talented songwriter\, (Aaron Tippin\, Keith Urban) with and incredibly accurate performance of his hero Hank Williams Senior\, (you’ll think he’s back!)

SUMMARY:Derek Edwards (Venables Theatre)
DESCRIPTION:With ‘In Praise of the Ostrich’  Derek Edwards presented by Shantero Productions moseys back into town on horse-drawn comedy wagon; a searing meander down life’s twisting trails\, steered effortfully by this 30-year veteran. He returns with a payload of blissfully funny personal stories – a cacophony of shenanigans – set to tickle the ribs and warm the heart. With an easy conversational style\, Derek reluctantly pulls his head out of the sand and launches into commentary on the influx of pot stores\, self-driving cars\, gambling tips\, the challenge of staying youthful… plus dressing warm.\nFrom Vegas to St. John’s\, this Just For Laughs veteran is universally considered to be among the comic elite.  Certainly his peers think so\, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee\, and winner of Best Standup Comic – Canadian Comedy Awards\, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy.  As Rick Mercer says\, “Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.” Clearly the critics agree: “5 STARS – the funniest man on earth” – Winnipeg Free Press; “4 STARS –  the crowd howled” – Victoria Times Colonist; “still the funniest man in Canada” – Toronto Sun; “Edwards reigns as the King of Canadian comedy” – Charlottetown Guardian; “Derek Edwards is hysterical” – Calgary Sun; “Edwards takes stand-up to next stage” – Georgia Straight; “the epitome of timing & storytelling” – Halifax Chronicle Herald; “the comedian’s comedian” – London Free Press. \n‘In Praise of the Ostrich’  – Derek Edwards’ new 90-minute stand-up comedy show… a richly textured and enthralling ‘cut above\,’ delivered with pace and authority by the consummate Canadian Comedian. Down to earth\, lots of laughs\, wagons ho.

SUMMARY:Artist Dinner (Phantom Creek Estates)
DESCRIPTION:At the entrance to Phantom Creek Estates winery\, visitors are awe-struck at two female figures\, each seven metres tall\, winged and poised to take flight but tethered to the earth by a slender waterfall of coated bronze. This is Pro Terra et Natura — For Earth and Nature — by Chinese contemporary artist Wu Ching Ru. It’s one of six such installations located around the world\, which represents two spirits of nature\, mother and daughter seeking a sanctuary to inhabit\, and their delicate connection to our planet.\n“Pro Terra et Natura is the perfect first welcome to the winery\,” said François Mateo\, Managing Director of Phantom Creek. “It captures everything we’re about: it represents our commitment to creation\, to art and culture\, and to being careful stewards of this land. It speaks to our responsibility to the community and to what we aspire to accomplish\, which is to transform the landscape by challenging the status quo.” \nThe internationally acclaimed artist — who is of aboriginal Taiwanese lineage — will visit Canada and the winery for the first time since the sculptures were installed in 2019. She’s looking forward to seeing them here\, where she feels they are well grounded against the natural\, breathtaking backdrop of the Black Sage Bench.  \nFrom September 17 to 19\, Wu will be in residence at the winery\, drawing inspiration from its surroundings to create 20 individual collectable wine-box art pieces. Winery visitors can see her at work\, and on September 18\, take part in a special dinner to celebrate the passion for art\, the cultural diversity\, fine wines and food\, and the exciting new opportunities envisioned by the artist and the brand\, for which Wu will also design and install a floral arrangement to mark this exclusive collaboration. \nThe exclusive artist dinner with Wu Ching Ru at Phantom Creek Estates takes place Monday\, September 18 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $245 per person plus tax and gratuity. To book\, please visit Tock.

SUMMARY:Concert: Volunteers & Jared Jackel's Bad Vibrations (Firehall Brewery)
DESCRIPTION:Firehall Brewery and Respect Record & Skate are proud to present… Volunteers & Jared Jackel’s Bad Vibrations! An evening of Okanagan original psychedelic alt country.\nVOLUNTEERS (North Okanagan) – Volunteers are a 3-piece (sometimes up to 6-piece) garage country group from the North Okanagan\, playing the original songs of Okanagan raised Liam McIvor (current steel player for Petunia & The Vipers). They take influence from John Prine\, Gene Clark\, The Flying Burrito Brothers and other psych country acts from the 60s and 70s. Blending them with traditional folk & country songwriting conventions under dense lyricism about love\, mortality\, compost & garbage. \nJARED JACKELS BAD VIBRATIONS (South Okanagan) – Jared Jackel is a Penticton based multi-instrumentalist and producer presiding somewhere inside the otherworldly realm of gothic cowboy psychedelia. Jackel\, releasing two hazily ambitious albums under the title of Jared Jackel’s Bad Vibrations\, is belligerently experimental-combining a meticulously refined command of bizarro country tonality\, with an aggressively original lyricism. Jared Jackel’s Bad Vibrations’ spirited live sets consist of avant-garage\, one-man-band style songs backed by foot-triggered bass drones\, twangy post-western guitar playing\, and retro-jazz drum-machines. \nTickets: $15 in advance\, $20 at the door. Seating will be limited and first-come-first-serve. Sponsored by Respect Record & Skate Shop on Main Street in Oliver!
