DESCRIPTION:Drought Resistance in the Plants of the South Okanagan – Sunday August 31st \nWith just 12 inches of rain annually\, the South Okanagan antelope brush habitat is a difficult place to live as a plant. Extreme heat and minimal precipitation have forced the native plant species to adapt in many different ways. ODC Conservation guide Ripley Shubert is currently pursuing a Bachelors of science in Ecology\, Evolution and Conservation biology from the University of British Columbia. Tickets $30 at the door.\n\nFEATURING:\nDEATH/AMBROSIA is a love letter to a cascade of influences from the 90’s\, while sounding completely like themselves\, the liminal feel of the drum machine hints at influences like portishead or Ava Adore era smashing pumpkins while the heavy guitar\, bass and keyboard tip the hat to Nine Inch Nails or maybe Tool.\nSTUCK IN NEUTRAL is somewhere between the classic Southern California punk sound like The Off-spring\, Green day or The Descendants AND the uptempo sides of grunge bands like Nirvana or Soundgarden.\nTHE CAVERNOUS are often accused of being influenced by industrial music yet moments of their set are clearly an homage to 90’s electronica like Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada. Either way expect heavy psychedelic electronic music from this duo.\nBUCKET hails from the west Kooteney region of BC. Inspired by the sounds of Eastern Canada’s punk scene as well as 2000’s pop punk. They are chasing the thrills of teenage angst and heartbreak with a high voltage energy level.\nMOONBATHER are a staple in the Vancouver Island stoner metal scene sharing the stage with such acts as Dopethrone\, Bort and Moths & Locusts. Known for their loose jam like feel\, if you like your riffs tasty and chunky this is your jam.\nIDIOFAME is a high energy melodic punk band reminiscent of the pop punk with break down vibe of the 2000’s. The kind of band you can’t help but sing along with the chorus. While they are relatively new to the Okanagan scene they are exploding into opening slots with Moneen and Calling All Captains.\nHARDBALL are Okanagan grunge and punk rock veterans\, last year marked the long awaited release of their debut self titled LP\, yet the boys have been hard at work on an all new set of furious bangers.\nBLACK OF HEARTS put the rock back in punk rock\, their songs are clearly made with song writing in mind yet the are backed by truly thoughtful and emotive musicianship. DESCRIPTION:Step right up for a week-long circus extravaganza! Green Fools Theatre Society is coming to Oliver July 29 – August 2 to teach circus for ages 8 to 14. The camp is hosted by Venables Theatre and will allow youth to try a multitude of circus disciplines including stilts\, unicycles\, juggling\, walking barrels\, and more.\nFor Green Fools Co-Founder Dean Bareham\, circus and performing had a profound impact on him. “It really saved my life\,” says Bareham\, “I was a teen who could have easily slipped through the cracks\, and it gave me direction.” During the camp the kids get to try everything from juggling to stilt walking. “We want to create a place where kids can participate in healthy risk taking and see that failure is okay\,” says Bareham. At the end of the week\, participants will create a performance for their families. \nIn Bareham’s thirty years of experience teaching circus\, he has experienced the incredible impact it has on kids. “During one of our camps in Calgary we had a young boy join us who had just arrived in Canada from Ethiopia. He was a refugee and didn’t speak English. Within days he was performing in the Jubilee auditorium and the rest of the kids had banded together to make sure he felt included.” \nAbout Green Fools\nFrom Alberta to Africa\, the Green Fools have been fostering circus and theatre since 1991. Co-founded by Artistic Director Dean Bareham\, the Green Fools are passionate circus educators\, entertainers\, and artists. In the last five years\, the Fools have impacted over 14\,000 kids through their circus programs and new circus school Studio G\, which develop confidence and social skills. Over 1\,100 of those kids received free programming. They have also performed children’s theatre and street performances across the globe. The Green Fools also create unique event entertainment with their custom costumes\, circus artists\, stilt walkers\, and more.
