DESCRIPTION:Step right up for a week-long circus extravaganza! Green Fools Theatre Society is coming to Oliver July 29 – August 2 to teach circus for ages 8 to 14. The camp is hosted by Venables Theatre and will allow youth to try a multitude of circus disciplines including stilts\, unicycles\, juggling\, walking barrels\, and more.\nFor Green Fools Co-Founder Dean Bareham\, circus and performing had a profound impact on him. “It really saved my life\,” says Bareham\, “I was a teen who could have easily slipped through the cracks\, and it gave me direction.” During the camp the kids get to try everything from juggling to stilt walking. “We want to create a place where kids can participate in healthy risk taking and see that failure is okay\,” says Bareham. At the end of the week\, participants will create a performance for their families. \nIn Bareham’s thirty years of experience teaching circus\, he has experienced the incredible impact it has on kids. “During one of our camps in Calgary we had a young boy join us who had just arrived in Canada from Ethiopia. He was a refugee and didn’t speak English. Within days he was performing in the Jubilee auditorium and the rest of the kids had banded together to make sure he felt included.” \nAbout Green Fools\nFrom Alberta to Africa\, the Green Fools have been fostering circus and theatre since 1991. Co-founded by Artistic Director Dean Bareham\, the Green Fools are passionate circus educators\, entertainers\, and artists. In the last five years\, the Fools have impacted over 14\,000 kids through their circus programs and new circus school Studio G\, which develop confidence and social skills. Over 1\,100 of those kids received free programming. They have also performed children’s theatre and street performances across the globe. The Green Fools also create unique event entertainment with their custom costumes\, circus artists\, stilt walkers\, and more. The mission is simple: changing the world one kid at a time. \nCost for the week: $300\nDates: July 29 – August 2\nTimes: 9:00am – 3:00pm\n​Ages: 8-14\n40 spots available. Following a series of GSM mini events throughout the spring and summer\, the culmination of the release of this wine will be an outdoor concert on July 20th! \nHester Creek is proud to present Mocking Shadows\, a lively Canadian band that has been entertaining crowds for over 25 years with their own brand of soul\, R&B\, reggae\, ska\, and even a little blues. They have developed an energetic and authentic sound that not only packs the dance floor\, but also satisfies the most discerning music fans. \nSaturday\, July 20th ~ 6:30 – 9:30pm\nGuests are welcome to start arriving at 6:00pm. This is a 19+ event with limited tickets available and no pets permitted. Outside food and alcoholic beverages not permitted. \nLawn Tickets ~ General Admission $50 per person\, plus tax\nOffering some of the best views of the stage\, Hester Creek invites you to bring your picnic blanket and settle in for a spectacular evening. No lawn chairs will be permitted for this event. \nPatio Tickets ~ Preassigned Seating $80 per person\, plus tax\nEnjoy a seat on either the Oak Terrace or Vineyard Patio including a complimentary glass of their 2022 GSM and a bag of truffle popcorn. If you are booking for only two people\, you will be seated at a table with another couple. All patio seats will be preassigned. Most guests will park on the top of Road 8\, just before the entrance to Hester Creek\, allowing the majority of the closer parking for guests with health conditions or impairments. Our love of music brought us together and helped us persevere through tragic personal loss when Jamie passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on New Year’s day of 2019. SUMMARY:Plein Air Painting Workshop (Osoyoos Desert Centre)
DESCRIPTION:Join celebrated artist Dale Matthews in the iconic Antelope-brush landscape of the Osoyoos Desert Centre. Dale will demonstrate a wash technique\, drawing into a painting\, and various methods using frisket\, plastic cards\, knives\, and sticks. \n​Dale Matthews\, FCA was born in 1938 in Rossland\, BC. From an early age Dale preferred drawing and painting the mountains to digging gold from them. He completed high school in Rossland before attending the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design)\, receiving a degree in fine art in 1961. \n\n\n​Dale worked as a commercial artist and architectural renderer in Toronto and Edmonton before establishing his own interior design firm in Vancouver. He is now retired and living in Summerland\, where he is happy to devote his time to painting and traveling. His paintings reflect his love and passion for the outdoors as well as the heritage architecture of the west. Western artists such as Charlie Russell and William Matthews have been a great inspiration to him. Dale’s work has been exhibited at the National Gallery\, Ottawa; Deep Cove Gallery\, North Vancouver; Seymour Art Gallery; Vancouver Art Gallery; Summerland Art Gallery; Spruce Meadows\, Calgary; Tumbleweed Gallery\, Penticton; and the Penticton Art Gallery.
