SUMMARY:BA Johnston Concert (Firehall Brewery)
DESCRIPTION:Firehall Brewery is proud to present… the infamous BA Johnston!\n\nWho should we believe: Wikipedia\, or the man himself? Let’s see what Wikipedia has to say… “B.A. Johnston\, is a Canadian comedic musician and performance artist based in Hamilton\, Ontario. He began touring around Canada in 2002\, performing songs that are often comedic in nature and include pop cultural references to sports teams\, junk food\, and video games. Accompanying himself on guitar and keyboard\, he performed as the character B.A. (Bored Again) Johnston who lives at home with his mother. Johnston’s 2010 album Thank You for Being a Friend appeared on the !Earshot National Top 50 Chart. Exclaim! magazine described it as “simplistic synth-pop and aggressive acoustic folk.” A feature article about Johnston in the Globe And Mail acknowledged his polarizing status in the Canadian music scene\, noting that for some he is a “modern-age Stompin’ Tom Connors.” However\, unlike Connors\, Johnston’s references to life in modern-day Canada are exaggeratedly irreverent and unromanticised\, featuring ironic swipes at large Canadian institutions like Foodland\, No Frills\, and Tim Hortons. As of 2022\, Johnston continues to tour across Canada\, performing his energetic and humorous show.”\n\nBut you know the internet these days… so we went straight to the source. Here is BA Johnston’s autobiographical take on his professional music career: “B.A. Johnston has been playing “music” throughout Canada since the dawn of time. He is best known for being the human inspiration for The Littlest Hobo and once ate three Baconators on a bet. He can be found at some crappy bar near you playing for a nominal cover charge\, which people pay even though ‘they only want to come in and have some wings.’ “\nYou can decide for yourself on June 9th\, for a nominal cover charge of $15 (that you should probably pay online in advance). If there’s one thing you should not let your social media feed distract you from\, it’s getting your tickets here!\nThis event is “rain or shine\,” though extreme weather will trigger a cancellation. Event cancellation due to extreme weather will be notified by email and on the Facebook event page\, with refunds to follow.\nPLEASE READ\nSeating will be limited and first-come-first-serve.\nNo alcohol from outside the premises is permitted. Door security will check bags for alcohol\, and alcohol consumption is not permitted outside the concert area (ex: parking lot\, alleyway\, etc).\nTickets are non-refundable (except in the rare event of concert cancellation).

SUMMARY:Moving Lines (Phantom Creek Estates)
DESCRIPTION:Moving Lines\, hailing from the Okanagan\, BC\, bring a classic vibe from decades gone by that’s both inspirational and expressive … creating music that makes you FEEL!\nJill has one of those rare hard rock voices that reverberates with the echoes of Ann Wilson and Ellen McIlwaine\, that will send a tingle down your spine. If you love big female voices that can shake a stadium\, she has it. Kevin backs her up with impressive rhythmic guitar and deep soulful harmonies that blend techniques from their mentors to form original compositions. They are fueled with a lifelong passion for music inspired by sensations such as Big Wreck\, Heart\, Aretha Franklin\, Sass Jordan\, Nina Simone\, Alice in Chains\, Chris Cornell and Ghost. Music is art … they are ‘Painters Of Sound’

SUMMARY:Live Music in the Plaza with Badgentina (District Wine Village)
DESCRIPTION:Complimentary Live Music in the Plaza every Friday\, Saturday & Sunday from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.\nbadgentina is Stephen and Lisa Toon\, married folk-rockers who have been making music together for over 20 years. They write and perform songs full of story\, in the tradition of their favourite songwriters. Growing up on albums by the likes of Jackson Browne\, the Indigo Girls\, Neil Young and KD Lang\, Stephen and Lisa make music in this vein — there are the heartfelt and personal ballads and intimate secrets set to music\, alongside rally cries and straight-up celebration. The live show is not to be missed. The journey is real for all who partake\, both the artist and art-lover get caught up in the expression and process. \nThe Toons have played many venues big and small on their own and with other artists/projects\, locally in Western Canada and as far away as Macau and Mongolia. Around 2007\, while still living in Vancouver\, BC\, Canada\, badgentina took a long break. Over the next 10 years\, 4 boys and a dog named Raphi joined the family\, and then…it just felt right to get the ol’ badger train back on the tracks. The Toons formed Toonmade as their online Hub for all their goings on\, it represents their independent record label and production house. By 2019 it was clear that badgentina would record a new record. It had been about 13 years since they last released an album\, Brittle the Bed.

SUMMARY:Live Music in the Plaza with Chayce Kennedy (District Wine Village)
DESCRIPTION:Complimentary Live Music in the Plaza every Friday\, Saturday & Sunday from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.\nIn the last two years\, Chayce has written over a hundred songs\, and has just released her fifth single\, “Dance Again\,” on all major platforms. Having worked with Grammy award-winning producer Brian West (known for his work with Sia\, Maroon 5\, Andy Grammer\, and Nelly Furtado just to name a few) and Juno award-winning producer Ryan Stewart (Carley Rae Jepson\, Jocelyn Alice\, Carys\, and Tyler Shaw)\, Chayce is using these opportunities to move her musical creativity forward. \nDuring the 2022 hot summer months\, Chayce performed in front of thousands of concert attendees\, performing 16 solo events\, and even more with her band. Her fan base continues to grow\, through messages of encouragement\, engagement\, and empowerment. One core belief that Chayce frequently repeats to others is\, “your own value is not determined by what others might think of you”. Against the confusing and confounding messages found within the ubiquitous social media machine\, the very personal and empowering messages within Chayce’s music will continue to resonate with listeners\, especially young women struggling to discover and enjoy their own unique identity and purpose.

SUMMARY:Concert Daniel Wesley (District Wine Village)
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Wesley’s music has always been a call to live life to the fullest. And on Beach Music\, the West Coast singer/songwriter’s ninth full-length album\, that call rings out more clearly than ever. Recorded with producer John Raham at Afterlife Studios\, Beach Music finds Wesley reaffirming his roots\, but also expanding on his signature brand of reggae-tinged beach music. From highly personal tracks like ‘See Your Star’ and ‘Older Now’\, to lighthearted offerings such as lead single and post-legalization anthem\, ‘Fire’\, the common thread on Beach Music is Wesley’s willingness to navigate life carefully but with open arms\, taking it all as it comes\, and enjoying every moment.

SUMMARY:Live Music in the Plaza with Joe Nolan (District Wine Village)
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy free live music in the Plaza on a Sunday afternoon at the District Wine Village.\nJoe Nolan\, named by The Globe and Mail as “An Americana wunderkind to look out for\,” shares Lost Verses\, his seventh album – and fifth in just five years – through Fallen Tree Records. It will be available exclusively at Bandcamp on October 31\, and on all digital platforms from December 16.The dozen songs on Lost Verses grew from notes collected in Nolan’s most private journals\, revealing the inner thoughts of a prolific artist who expresses longing\, love and remorse with powerful melodies\, primarily picked on his signature parlour guitar. During Nolan’s illustrious career he’s recorded with JUNO award winning producers Colin Linden and Hawksley Workman\, won several Cobalt Prize songwriting awards at the Maple Blues Awards\, earned a handful of BreakOut West nominations\, as well as a Canadian Folk Music Award nod for Contemporary Roots Album Of The Year for his 2020 release\, Drifters.Influenced by roots-music gentry like Leonard Cohen\, Patti Smith\, Bruce Springsteen\, Lucinda Williams and Bob Dylan\, Nolan reflects on his vagabond lifestyle that takes him from his hometown city of Edmonton\, to festivals and venues spread throughout Canada’s peaks and valleys. A typical year will see him playing anywhere from 150 – 200 shows; he is a true workhorse and road dog.Often framed as a lone wolf\, Nolan self-produced Lost Verses\, but called upon some friends to elevate the album. Key tracks feature Sarah Pagé on harp (Leif Vollebekk\, The Barr Brothers)\, LA’s COULOU on trumpet and sister Nataya Nolan on background vocals.Opening a journal can uncloak the deepest emotions buried inside. On Lost Verses\, Joe Nolan let’s us in through these twelve stories of broken lovers\, speeding cars and critical\, honest personal contemplation\, as he meditates on life’s meaning through\, what he calls that mist of uncertainty\, “cigarette skies.”The lasting effect is a heart-wrenching and utterly inspired recording\, and a guarantee that these Lost Verses will not be buried again.
