SUMMARY:Ballet Jorgen's Swan Lake
DESCRIPTION:About the Performance\n\nBallet Jörgen brings one of the world’s most beloved ballets to life with a distinctly Canadian twist. \n\nSet against the dramatic backdrop of the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia\, Bengt Jörgen’s acclaimed reimagining of Swan Lake blends the beauty and tradition of classical ballet with a setting drawn from Canada’s own history. Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score accompanies the timeless story of Odette\, a young woman transformed into a swan by the sorcerer Von Rothbart\, and Siegfried\, whose love may be the only thing that can set her free. \n\nWith breathtaking choreography\, striking period costumes and an ensemble of exceptional dancers\, Swan Lake is a sweeping story of love\, deception\, sacrifice and redemption. Whether you are a lifelong ballet fan or experiencing Swan Lake for the first time\, this uniquely Canadian production offers a beautiful and accessible take on a classic. \n\nTICKETS:\n\nAdults – $65\n\nStudents – $35\n\nBuy Tickets Here

SUMMARY:Brent Butt
DESCRIPTION:About the Performance\n\nGet ready to laugh until it hurts: Brent Butt\, the comedic mind behind Canada’s beloved sitcom Corner Gas\, is bringing his stand-up show to the Venables Theatre stage. \n\nBorn and raised in the small farming town of Tisdale\, Saskatchewan\, Brent discovered his love of making people laugh at the local coffee shop\, trading stories with friends for hours at a time. That easy\, conversational style of comedy carried him from Saskatoon comedy clubs to headlining stages across the country\, and eventually to creating\, writing\, starring in\, and directing Corner Gas\, one of the highest-rated sitcoms in Canadian television history and a two-time nominee for an International Emmy Award. \n\nSince then\, Brent’s career has only grown: a Gemini Award nomination\, the title of “Best Male Stand-Up in Canada\,” a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to community and country\, and a string of award-winning follow-ups including Corner Gas: The Movie and Corner Gas: Animated. His debut novel\, HUGE\, landed as the #1 fiction bestseller in Canada. \n\nNow Brent brings decades of stage experience to Oliver for a night of sharp\, story-driven comedy that feels like sitting around a coffee shop table with an old friend\, minus the coffee (unless you bring your own). \n\nTICKETS: $48\n\nBuy Tickets Here

SUMMARY:In Spite of Ourselves
DESCRIPTION:About the Performance\n\nInitially not much more than a good natured musical one-off between friends\, the West Coast quartet In Spite of Ourselves has evolved into a highly entertaining act with a mission— to keep alive the deep and timeless catalogue of songwriter John Prine. \n\nAn unspoken understanding of this mission is the belief that there are only two kinds of people in the musical world: those whose lives have been profoundly changed by Prine\, and those who haven’t heard him yet. \n\nIn Spite of Ourselves: A Celebration of the Music of John Prine brings together the interpretive talents of multi-instrumentalist/producer Doug Cox\, Juno Award-winning Tom and Kalissa Landa from the Paperboys\, and Nashville/Vancouver Island songwriter/artist Steve Mitchell. \n\nAll lifelong Prine devotees\, the members of In Spite of Ourselves take turns diving deep into the Prine songbook. With a twinkle in his eye\, Doug Cox leads the band through a joyously loose reading of Prine’s “You Got Gold” featuring a drunken-sounding orchestra of fiddle\, harmonica\, and melodica. Tom Landa finds the tender and contemplative heart of “Long Monday\,” and Steve Mitchell goes over to the other side of the tracks on the funky “Mexican Home.” And on “Picture Show\,” Kalissa Landa follows up the song’s insanely hooky chorus with a fiddle solo that’s as combustible as an old film projector. \n\nTragically for all of us\, John Prine left this world at the beginning of the pandemic. But thanks to his songs\, music fans everywhere have a permanent portal into the little universe of his singular mind. \n\nIn Spite of Ourselves takes you through that door and shows you the house that John Prine built. You’re never going to want to leave. \n\nTICKETS:Adults: $45Students: $25\n\nBuy Tickets Here

DESCRIPTION:“If Dizzy Gillespie were still with us\, he would love CaneFire” Vancouver Sun “CaneFire is sweeter than Caroni brown sugar and don’t doubt me” Trinidad Guardian Toronto-based Caribbean jazz powerhouse CaneFire is NOT your grandfather’s jazz band. As one of the most explosive and energetic jazz ensembles on the planet\, CaneFire delivers a rollicking\, high-octane show combining the white-hot energy of Cuban rhythm\, the blinding musicianship of modern jazz\, and the unbridled joy of the music of the Caribbean. \n\nCaneFire’s signature sound revolves around its unconventional use of the steelpan – the only petroleum byproduct in the world that is actually good for you. Led by Canadian pianist/composer Jeremy Ledbetter\, CaneFire also features steelpan virtuoso Mark Mosca\, Alexis Baro (trumpet)\, Braxton Hicks (saxophones)\, Chendy Leon (drums)\, Yoser Rodriguez (bass)\, and Alberto Suarez (percussion). \n\nCaneFire has released two albums and taken their unique brand of Caribbean Latin Jazz from BC to Newfoundland\, to South America\, and to the Caribbean\, including three years in a row at the Trinidad and Tobago Jazz Festival. Their second album Pandemonium embodies all the sizzle and twice the sophistication of its predecessor\, and features guest performances by Trinidadian calypso superstar David Rudder and Brazilian jazz legend Hermeto Pascoal. \n\nTICKETS:\n\nAdult $45 \n\nSenior $40 \n\nStudents $25 \n\nBuy Tickets Here
