SUMMARY:All The Madmen - South Okanagan Concert Series presented by Venables Theatre
DESCRIPTION:About the Performance \n\nAll the MadmenBreaking the Silence\, from Beethoven to Bowie \n\n“The duty of an artist is to reflect their time. In this crucial period of our lives\, when everything feels so desperate\, when each day is a question of survival\, I believe we cannot do anything but mobilize.” \n\nThese words\, spoken by the incredible human and artistic force Nina Simone\, resonate today with a striking relevance. All the Madmen is conceived as a concert where the voices of some of the most influential artists in history resonate with the audience. We bring to the stage artists who\, through their ideologies\, convictions\, and strength of character\, were marginalized in their own time: “Are they all mad?” The works featured in the program are enriched with poems\, texts\, and anecdotes\, allowing the abstract power of music to create a space for emotion\, release\, and collective reflection. \n\nThis program builds a bridge between past and present\, celebrating visionary artists who sought\, through music\, to transform the world. Their works\, born in troubled times\, reflect deep convictions and powerful commitment. From Hasta Siempre by Carlos Puebla in 1965 to the innovative tangos of Piazzolla and Borges\, from the musical defiance of Nina Simone to the boldness of David Bowie in All the Madmen\, and the universal plea of Pau Casals in 1971\, these creations bear the mark of hope and resistance. Long before them\, Beethoven already dreamed of equality and universality through his works. As artists today\, we continue this pursuit by commissioning bold new works from composers around the world\, inspired by this legacy. Music\, whether from yesterday or today\, holds a mysterious power: the ability to transform\, to move us\, and to push us forward\, just as these timeless creators envisioned. \n\nFollowing the great success of the program Résonances — with more than 200 performances since 2020 — the duo Stick&Bow returns with a similar structure\, combining classical masterpieces and contemporary music\, featuring original arrangements for marimba and cello\, crafted and performed with passion\, energy\, subtlety\, and finesse. \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPart of the South Okanagan Concert Series \n\nFriday October 16 – Collage Trad \n\nSunday November 15 – All the Madmen \n\nThursday January 21 – Aurora Piano Trio \n\nFriday April 2 – Virginia Sparvier-Wells Trio \n\nTICKETS: \n\nIndividual Event – $35 \n\n2-3 Events – $29.50 each \n\n4 Events – $27 each \n\nStudents – $5 \n\nBuy Series Tickets Here \n\nBuy Single Event Tickets Here

SUMMARY:Aurora Piano Trio - South Okanagan Concert Series presented by Venables Theatre
DESCRIPTION:About the Performance \n\nThe Aurora Piano Trio has received praise for their passion\, exuberance\, and lyricism as well as sensational performances. Violinist Yuel Yawney and cellist Sungyong Lim\, members of the famed Borealis String Quartet\, joined together with the acclaimed pianist\, Libby Yu to form the Aurora Piano Trio. Each of the members of the Trio has performed around the world and bring their extensive chamber music experience together to create an ensemble of the highest calibre. \n\n \n\nFounded in 2019 and mentored by the great Canadian impresario\, George Zukerman\, the Trio has garnered much critical acclaim. Debuting for the Whistler Chamber Music Society in the Trio’s first season as part of a Western Canadian tour\, the remaining engagements were cancelled due to COVID. In 2021\, the Trio began rebooking engagements and that September was the season opening concert to a sold-out audience for the Cafe Classico Series at the Langley Community Music School. Since then\, the Trio has had numerous performances around BC\, from the Music by the Sea Festival in Victoria to standing ovations in Vancouver at the Orpheum ANNEX and the Centre Stage at Surrey City Hall. More recently\, the Aurora toured Vancouver Island performing in Port Alberni\, Hornby and Denman Islands\, as well as Qualicum Beach and Tofino and later presenting concerts in Eastern BC. Due to many audience requests\, the Aurora was invited back to perform at the Langley Community Music School for the Rose Gellert Hall Series. The Trio has also performed and taught at the recently inaugurated Cascade Peaks ChamberFest alongside artists from the Gryphon Trio\, New Orford and Borealis String Quartets. Among other highlights of this season was a thrilling performance of the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra. With bookings into 2025\, the Aurora Piano Trio continues to enthral audiences wherever they perform. \n\n \n\nPart of the South Okanagan Concert Series \n\nFriday October 16 – Collage Trad \n\nSunday November 15 – All the Madmen \n\nThursday January 21 – Aurora Piano Trio \n\nFriday April 2 – Virginia Sparvier-Wells Trio \n\nTICKETS: \n\nIndividual Event – $35 \n\n2-3 Events – $29.50 each \n\n4 Events – $27 each \n\nStudents – $5 \n\nBuy Series Tickets Here \n\nBuy Single Event Tickets Here
