DESCRIPTION:山彦太鼓　Yamabiko (meaning ‘Mountain Echo’ in Japanese) Taiko was founded in 2003 in Kelowna\, BC\, Canada. \n\nThe BeginningsYamabiko Taiko began with very humble and simple desires: purely to enjoy and play Japanese Taiko-style drums and be lost in their power and grace. With only a few members led by Eri Uchida\, we were able to acquire our very crude but effective drums. They were homemade with regular packing tape and\, believe it or not\, cut-to-size sewer pipes (unused of course!) donated by the City of Kelowna. Weekly practices weren’t even scheduled; the group gathered together whenever possible in the basement of a member’s house. And so with this Yamabiko Taiko  was born! Who knew what was to come… \n\nTodayYamabiko Taiko has evolved into a regularly performing group. Most performances are held in the southern interior of BC. Practices are held on Monday and Thursday evenings in the basement of the Kelowna Buddhist Temple. The conversation will explore how memory\, emotion\, intuition\, and hands-on making shape their work\, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the artistic process. \n\nYour afternoon includes a welcome splash of wine and light charcuterie to enjoy as you settle in for thoughtful dialogue and creative exchange. \n\nAbout the Artists\n\nAlex Lavrov  \n\n\n			\n\nAlex Lavrov is a visual artist working primarily with oils on canvas\, using improvisation as his central creative method. Born in Ukraine\, he moved to Israel in 1997 at age sixteen\, facing cultural dislocation and separation from family\, which intensified his engagement with art as a means of processing emotional challenges. Over time\, his practice evolved into a tool for self-exploration and understanding the workings of the mind. In 2007\, he permanently relocated to Canada and now lives and works in the Vancouver area\, British Columbia\, continuing to create art that unfolds intuitively during the creative process. \n\nTamara Grand  \n\n\n			\n\nTamara Grand creates layered abstract paintings using acrylic\, wax pastel\, and graphite. Her work develops through a process of addition and revision\, with bold colour\, organic form\, and gestural marks accumulating and remaining partially visible. Rather than concealing earlier stages\, she allows traces of the past to emerge\, recording change over time. Her intuitive approach embraces movement\, erasure\, and reworking on canvas and birch panel. With a background in science\, she views each painting as an experiment\, inspired by nature’s shifting light\, textures\, growth\, and decay. Her practice began after the loss of her daughter\, holding grief and joy together through evolving\, unfinished transformation.

DESCRIPTION:This abstract collage workshop is for beginners\, curious people\, and anyone who wants two hours of making without the pressure of getting it right. \n\nWe’ll use torn and cut paper and mark-making tools to build up a large surface — layering freely\, covering things up\, and changing our minds as we go. Along the way\, we’ll talk about contrast: big and small\, dark and light\, rough and smooth — the simple things that make a composition feel alive. \n\nThe best part? At the end\, you’ll use a cropping window to find the painting hiding inside your surface. It’s always in there somewhere. \n\nNo scenes to compose\, nothing to draw\, nothing that has to look like anything. Just colour\, shape\, and texture. \n\nDetails: \n\nWhat to bring: magazines\, catalogues\, wrapping paper\, tissue paper\, paper napkins\, wallpaper scraps\, maps\, sheet music — anything printed or patterned. Everything else is provided. \n\nArtist Bio:  \n\nTamara Grand creates layered abstract paintings using acrylic\, wax pastel\, and graphite. Her work develops through a process of addition and revision\, with bold colour\, organic form\, and gestural marks accumulating and remaining partially visible. Rather than concealing earlier stages\, she allows traces of the past to emerge\, recording change over time. Her intuitive approach embraces movement\, erasure\, and reworking on canvas and birch panel. With a background in science\, she views each painting as an experiment\, inspired by nature’s shifting light\, textures\, growth\, and decay. Her practice began after the loss of her daughter\, holding grief and joy together through evolving\, unfinished transformation.
